Basic knitting is all you need to know to create a knitting business
Basic knitting -- that is, knowing the two simple stitches of knit and purl -- is all you will ever need to know to start a knitting business. Knowing these two stitches -- in other words, having basic knitting skills -- means you are capable of knitting literally thousands of things!
Many folks think that they need to be master knitters in order to do knitting for profit, but a sound knowledge of basic knitting techniques is truly all that's required. In addition to knowing how to do a knit stitch and a purl stitch, you'll need to know how to cast on and how to bind off - but those skills are easy to pick up!
If you really want to add to your basic knitting skills, the next two things you might want to learn are how to increase the number of stitches in a row, and how to decrease the number of stitches in a row. Learning these two basic knitting add-ons will allow you to do all kinds of 'shaping' so that you can knit even more things.
With basic knitting skills, you can knit dozens of things:
1. for men, women or children (sweaters, jackets, socks, scarves)
2. for practical purposes for the home (dishcloths and afghans are popular examples)
3. for decoration only (wall hangings, for example)
There's no limit to the possibilities for a profitable knitting business, with just good basic knitting knowledge. You don't need to be a master at it -- you just need to know basic knitting -- to make money!
