KNIT CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS

One of the nice things about knit Christmas ornaments is that you can knit them in large enough sizes to use as 'trivets' or placemats, or small enough to be lapel pins or gift tie-ons. You can use the traditional reds and greens of the holiday season to knit Christmas ornaments, or go 'modern' with everything from neon colors to silver strands to bold, bright choices.

Here are four easy knit Christmas ornaments you can make:

1. Snowflakes - snowflakes are a really popular knit Christmas ornament, and they are fast and easy to knit.

2. Angels - angels are probably the second most popular of the knit Christmas ornaments - from tree-toppers to zipper pulls, there are patterns available for all kinds of angels.

3. Candy canes - the candy cane patterns usually involve having some basic knowledge of 'intarsia' knitting' -- but if you do, these knit Christmas ornaments are wonderful!

4. Christmas bells - colorful Christmas bells (even ones with a knitted 'knocker') are great knit Christmas ornaments that can be made in any size, and any color - they'll sell like hotcakes if you knit up a bunch of them in lots of different colors to complement any decor!

5. Snowmen - again, knitted snowmen can be made any size, and I even found a great pattern for a snowman that will stand up.

6. Stars - stars are another of the knit Christmas ornaments that you can make in large sizes to become placemats (or even doormats, for that matter - just double up your yarn, or use a good, sturdy 'rug' yarn) or trivets. Tiny stars as package decorations will also be a huge hit at craft sales.
