Knit Shawl Patterns for Profit

3 profitable knit shawl patterns

Knit shawl patterns are probably among the most fun -- and easiest -- items a knitter-for-profit can make use of. Shawls are so versatile and popular, and knit shawl patterns run the gamut from 'young and funky' to classic, elegant and formal.

FREE KNIT SHAWL PATTERNS

1. The first of the easy knit shawl patterns works like this: using worsted weight wool or one of the new novelty yarns, cast on 3 stitches. (If you've ever knit a basic dishcloth, you can now guess what's coming) :) ... Increase one stitch at the beginning of each row, for a nicely finished edge, until the top edge of the triangle is as wide as you'd like it to be -- it's a good idea to try it on various sizes of adult women just so you have an idea of a few different sizes. Add a fringe if you like, and you're done!

2. The next of the easy knit shawl patterns is a basic rectangular shape, but you can knit this rectangle in any type, color or texture of yarns. Or, for that matter, use more than one to get a varied texture, or stripes -- just make sure that whatever fibre you use has a good 'drape' to it!

In order to knit a rectangle that's about two feet wide, you may have to knit a gauge first to see how many stitches to cast on. But once you've determined that, simply knit (in whatever stitch pattern you like - another chance to be creative!) until your shawl is about seven feet long, and bind off. Again, you can add a fringe along the bottom row, or not.

3. This is my personal favorite of all the knit shawl patterns -- and it really could be called a 'shancho' or a 'phawl' or something, because it's kind of a cross between a shawl and a poncho, but not really either. In any case, what you'll do is knit TWO rectangles, slightly shorter than the pattern above calls for. (For an approximate length, hold your arms straight out from your sides, and have someone measure you from just below your left elbow, up your arm, across your back, and down the other arm). Again, this allows you to use any yarns, or combinations, and knit any stitch pattern that you like. When you are finished knitting the two rectangles, sew them together across the top (which is one of the long edges), leaving a slit in the middle for the head and neck hole!

There you have it - three easy knit shawl patterns with which -- with a little imagination and creativity -- you can make literally hundreds of different shawls to sell!
