Make Money Knitting with Cotton Yarn

3 types of cotton yarn items to knit

Cotton yarn comes from a vegetable fiber 'distilled' from the cotton plant seed. It is normally an off-white or light cream-colored fiber, which makes it an ideal choice for summer garments for men, women or children. It is also easy, and fast to knit with, making it a profitable choice for knitters in business, too.

Dyed cotton yarn, because it is lightweight and cool -- not to mention rugged and durable -- is also ideal for children's garments of all kinds.

So, if you are in the business of knitting for profit, you would do well to knit up some seasonal summer cotton yarn garments for all ages, stages and sizes of folks, and childrens' garments made from cotton yarn can be knit for any time of the year.

COTTON YARN DISHCLOTHS

In addition to summer garments and children's year-round apparel, one immensely popular item that needs to be knit with cotton yarn is dishcloths. Cotton yarn dishcloths are ideal, because of their absorbency, and they are probably the number one item that knitters make to sell in North America.

Cotton yarn dishcloths are popular with knitters-for-profit for a few reasons:

- they are REALLY easy to make; an experienced knitter can turn out one or two per hour.
- they are portable, so you can knit cotton yarn dishcloths while traveling
- cotton yarn comes in many (dyed) colors, making the dishcloths very versatile
- they sell really fast at bazaars and craft sales

To make a cotton yarn dishcloth, use a small-diameter needle (so that the final product isn't too loose or stretchy), and cast on only three stitches.

Using just the straight knit stitch on each row, increase by one stitch at the beginning of each row. When a side of the cloth (not the part with the stitches on the needle) measures 8," you will begin to decrease by one stitch each row. Once you are back to having only 3 stitches on the needle, you cast off. One cotton yarn dishcloth is now ready to sell!
