Use Knitting Blogs to Boost Your Biz

Knitting blogs can pump your profits

Knitting blogs are springing up, in the knitting 'community,' by the dozens! What's a knitting blog, you ask? Or, even more specifically, what's a blog?

KNITTING BLOGS: A DEFINITION

First of all, the word 'blog' is the shortened form of 'web log,' which is as it sounds ... a 'log' or diary that happens to be web-based. (Yes, thousands of people now bare their souls online every day.... but that's another story.) ;-)

So knitting blogs are online logs or diaries about knitting - and they're REALLY interesting and fun to read! But they are also chock full of information that is useful to a professional knitter!

First of all, get yourself a cup of coffee, and do a search on Google for 'knitting blog.' Be prepared to spend some time reading some delightful pages about knitting! But you'll soon discover the goldmine of other information that's present in knitting blogs -- from gauge information to yarn 'reviews' to free patterns, there's SO much great info in knitting blogs! Indeed, when you do general Google searches for knitting-related terms these days, what often comes up is pages of knitting blogs.

I've discovered, in knitting blogs, everything from how many yards of a particular wool it'll take to knit a sweater my size to how to knit a buttonhole to where to send donations of charity knitting. I've learned how to knit socks, repair a shoulder seam and create a 'Russian join' -- all from knitting blogs.

Knitting blogs originate from all over the world, too ... so you can often get a perspective on knitting in the UK, for example, or 'down under' in New Zealand or Australia. That also means that you can use knitting blogs to spot trends, a very useful skill to have when you're in the knitting business.

Finally, reading knitting blogs puts you in touch, on a personal basis, with other knitters around the world - or in the next town. I've laughed with a woman in Wyoming when the hat she knitted turned out the size of an umbrella, I've cried with a woman in Alaska who took her knitting to her chemotherapy sessions to calm herself. Knitting blogs help create a knitting community -- and when you're in business for yourself, that community becomes a vital part of your life!

YOU can also use knitting blogs to do what other bloggers are doing -- asking for help with a project, sharing your information or experience about a particular pattern, bragging about how well you did at the local craft fair. Why not start your own knitting blog, and join the community?

Knitting blogs are a fantastic tool for any knitter, and a truly valuable resource when you are knitting for profit!
